I have been In Cognito for many years, since I fell to the PA dark side. But I'm here to post very sad news, of the death of Mark Douglas Evans.

Here's what his wife, Dominique, posted today:

For those of you who have not been informed, Mark passed away this morning from the results of a car accident, which happened on December 26th, on highway 50. He suffered a spinal injury which caused him to be completely paralyzed from shoulder to toes. He also had begun to suffer from Alzheimer’s.

I don't remember if Mark had a C'net handle. I met him in person several times and knew him to be as kind and wise IRL as he was online. Go well, good man.

I saw the news on Facebook.  Very sad.  Mark was a very early and prolific contributor here on c.net.  We met up a few times at NEFFA, and he was a delight to play with.

Thank you, Allison, and good to “see” you again, even if it’s to share sad news.

Yes, Mark was a member of concertina.net (here’s his member profile). He hasn’t posted here in 15 years. Like Jim, above, I met up with him a few times at NEFFA back in the day, but have been out of touch for years, although I’ve thought about him often. He was a fine player and a delightful person. His wife, Dominique Labelle, is an operatic soprano. We have heard her several times at the Glimmerglass Festival.

Very sad news!

I didn't see this until today since I havent checked in for a long while.

I didn't really know Mark well. I met him once or twice and he was very likeable. I do have a nice audio file though, of Mark playing and singing 'She Went Through The Fair.' Its from several years back.... my file shows a 2008 "update" of some kind (like maybe I relocated the file or something) but I think it's from before then.

Anyway, it was when I first had the Box file storage account, which gave me a ton of free storage, and Mark couldn't easily share his audio file -- too large or something -- so he had me put it on Box.

It was shared here years ago in a forum but I can't find it so I'll share a link here.

(If anyone wonders -- my handle was previously bellowbelle. Just trimming down my list of names, and moonsagotunes is better.)

Wow that is a great performance. I was unaware of Mark Evans, but what a singing voice, and playing one of my favourite but rarely listened to tunes. Difficult to listen to at any time, poignant now.

Thank you for sharing.

I exchanged messages recently with Dominique ,Mark's Wife and I suggested a song" Danny Boy" that Mark  posted up a long time ago as a remembrance song to Mark . After listening to the tune posted above ,it is a great recording of him and demonstrates his concertina playing ability and hs fine voice ,thank you very much.

I have also read today Allan Atlas writing about Obi's Boys performance on English International ,which he enjoyed greatly.
