Lappy Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 some history about accordions, concertinas, bandoneons, Chemnitzer (spelling?) https://youtu.be/sowHKXPDAYk?si=RKuWoau5k_pTipRo
Stephen Chambers Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 Hmmm, they've used one of my photographs, of the 5-note (not 3-note like they state!) chord reeds in a Demian accordion that I own, without seeking my permission or crediting me! NOT impressed! 🙄
Peter Laban Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 Once it's on the web, nothing is safe Steve. It seems the thought is that if Google images turns it up, it's a free for all. I have been dealing with that sort of thing a lot and now only post photos for a short while and always with obnoxious watermarks stating the copyright. But stuff gets lifted off the ITMA website and put on festival posters etc. regardless. 1
SIMON GABRIELOW Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 Very interesting documentary, ( except for the annoying adverts inbetween)🌝

Well, I guess it has been on the internet for more than 20 years now Peter... 🙄 http://www.concertina.com/chambers/michaelstein/ ("Private Collection" in the title is a German convention that recognises only two forms of collection - either "State" or "Private".) Jody Kruskal Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 (edited) I was watching the video and I saw this at 3:43 and again at 4:34 Helmi Herrington holding a round concertina. It's a museum piece! Looks like an Anglo with extra buttons over 30. Edited November 19, 2025 by Jody Kruskal

Jody Kruskal Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 At 16:05 you can hear me playing an original tune called Old Glory from my Naked Concertina recording.

Jody, were they any more considerate to you than they were to Stephen?

I just watched the end credits, and no, they didn't credit it. The copyright date on the video is 2009, so this one has been out of the barn for a while. Ken
RAc Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 Around 17:00, Riggy Rackin elaborates on the "English concertina" to add that "the other kind of concertina is the anglo..." followed by Robben Meador mixing up diatonic and bisonoric instruments. I (as a duet player) consider that sloppy and slightly offensive. I believe I understand what they were getting at, but concertina professionals should not make public statements like those. It is unprofessional. Other than that, except for their missing credits and US centrism I thought that the film is rather well crafted and entertaining.
Jody Kruskal Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 Yes, someone from the production contacted me to ask permission which I agreed to. Too bad about no credit though. Shame on them.

I do recognize, however, that it wasn’t too long ago that many anglo concertina players and melodeon players thought the definition of “diatonic” was what we now call bisonoric.
