macnalley Posted November 12 Posted November 12 (edited) Does anyone have any recommendations on where to purchase a hard concertina case? I am in the States, and looking for something that's cheap and serviceable, not fancy. I recently purchased a used Stagi tenor, and I'm enjoying it, but it came on its lonesome. It's 7" across the flats, and 7" compressed, but the thumb straps appear to have a bit of rigid metal in the (is this normal, it's my first English?) that sticks about an additional 1.25" on either side. So I need something about 7" x 7.75" x 9.5" in total. This seems to be larger than even the largest cases I see online at McNeela, Concertina Connection, or Hobgoblin, but that's odd to me since the Stagi tenor is smaller than my CC Elise, which I took to be a common and popular model. And even then, most of these places have their hard cases out of stock. Where do y'all purchase your cases? Edited November 12 by macnalley
David Levine Posted November 12 Posted November 12 I have a good case that I don’t use. Where are you? 1
David Lay Posted November 12 Posted November 12 (edited) I bought this on Amazon and fitted the inside myself. Edited November 12 by David Lay 1

I've wondered about these, myself-- eying Nanuk's Black friday sale. did you fit the inside with the foam cubes or make a velvet/padded interior? Many thanks!

Many thanks! Wood blocks in the corners with velvet on neoprene. The neoprene was peel and stick and the velvet stuck to that. Spray glue was used some, but hot glue was used to bond pieces to the case itself. 1
saguaro_squeezer Posted November 29 Posted November 29 I have use those Pelican cases for many of my concertinas. Usually, I put a velcro strap around the concertina to hold t closed, put it in a protective bag to keep dust and foam bits out and then use the foam to shield it. 1

I use x-bands, as recommended by Dave Elliott. And i treated myself to the luxury of a square silk scarf for all round protection from dust etc. 1
saguaro_squeezer Posted December 1 Posted December 1 I had a number of silk bags made by CarmenBruna on Etsy. I would put the concertina in the bag with a Velcro band to keep the bellies closed. The bags were wonderful and about £50 each but beautifully made and he would discuss custom sizing.
Goldhand Posted Tuesday at 02:51 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:51 PM Little late to the game but I got this a while back and it fits my concertina perfectly. The one I ordered had pluck n pull foam. It's a very Sturdy case. You can probably throw it over Niagara Falls and it would be safe.haha.https://a.co/d/cDoe9Pa

My iM2075 just fits my 6.25” Wheatstone, so it may not fit @macnalley’s 7” Stagi. 1
Alan Day Posted Tuesday at 10:51 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:51 PM Be careful with foam in concertina cases . Over a period of time the foam begins to break down and the little foam particles will block your reeds up. A message from experience. Al 1
SIMON GABRIELOW Posted Wednesday at 12:22 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:22 AM I think there's been similar requirements asked for before ( Concertina cases).. other than making your own ( maybe in wood or plywood).. you can simply use a popular lunch box, made of plastic maybe, with soft material padding. Someone has used even a sort of 'vanity case box' I also recall been suggested ( for the vain or particularly special visage!😊😊).
Alan Day Posted Wednesday at 09:14 AM Posted Wednesday at 09:14 AM I have a lovely antique leather vanity case (with the mirror removed). It took a few months for the perfume to wear off however.
jgarber760 Posted Wednesday at 08:03 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:03 PM I bought a McNeela Swan concertina without a case. I ordered the case made for it from McNeela and had it shipped to me here in the US. Price at that time was $88 with free shipping. I expected some additional tariff or custom fees but they never charged me for that. They have a few other similar cases so I would check for measurements with them. This case is perfect for me and well made. I think other dealers sell the same cases so but they charge shipping etc. It was actually cheaper to get this from Ireland than buying it in the US.
John Sylte Posted yesterday at 12:08 AM Posted yesterday at 12:08 AM Lunch coolers you might send your kid to school with also work great.
