Clive Thorne Posted October 31 Posted October 31 I know that this is normally done with felt, but tonight, in the absence of the correct felt I used a thin strip of thing chamois leather instead. MUCH easier than trying to get a piece of felt in, and staying in, the hole. Seems to to work perfectly, so is there any reason that this isn't used, or reason why I should not use it?
Chris Ghent Posted October 31 Posted October 31 A long time ago I used a piece of thin leather. What I found was, unlike cloth, once compressed over time by the lever it progressively failed to bounce back, becoming very thin and eventually developing a hole at the tightest point.

So perhaps a shortish term solution. Still, gives me time to source some of the proper stuff.
Richard Mellish Posted November 1 Posted November 1 I have used a piece of silicone sleeving. It seemed satisfactory.
Anglo-Irishman Posted November 1 Posted November 1 I've used a iece of bicycle valve rubber. It was on a very short lever from which the button slipped off every time I opened the action box - even with an adequate felt bushing. With the "non-slip" valve rubber, the button stays put on its lever, and the playing action is not impaired. I don't know how long the rubber will last. If it has to be renewed periodically, it would be unwise to use it on all 30 levers! Cheers, John
