Richard Mellish Posted June 17 Posted June 17 The (hard) case that came with one of my concertinas is falling apart. Who can sell me a new one suitable for a concertina 7½in, 19 cm across the flats?
Matthew Heumann Posted June 17 Posted June 17 They may be expensive, but worth every penny. Here is the UK division of Pelican: https://peliproducts.co.uk/products/im2075-storm-case?srsltid=AfmBOoriKKRWrf-yN5qlRlZLk15vNI3ZfSs9qk4I3W1mkqdrAmKfyAjq 1
Alan Day Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Concertina boxes why not try alternatives. For many years now I have used a leather vanity case for my two concertinas. It polishes up as new and is much admired. I have also tried Telephone Engineers leather tool boxes. an Anucci Vanity case (50 pence in a boot fair). My leather one nearly knocked your head off with the smell of perfume, but packing it with newspaper for a week reduced that. The box alternatives are easily available and worth considering as an alternative. 1

wunks Posted June 18 Posted June 18 The measurement across the flats isn't the limiting dimension. My 8 1/4" duet with 7 fold bellows fits nicely in my American Tourister hard shell train case as it is less than 8" hand rest to hand rest. Turned 1/4 sideways and scootched to one end, it is snug on 3 sides with room for a side compartment for "stuff". From point to point ( Hex ) is 9 1/2". That dimension can go lengthwise in a rectangular case.
Richard Mellish Posted June 18 Author Posted June 18 Thanks for all the info. One or other of those should suit.
Alan Day Posted June 18 Posted June 18 My Box (An old vanity case) Holds two Jeffries and a Swanee whistle I took the mirror out. I did not want to watch myself playing. Al 2
jkmelb Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Has anyone tried the McNeela hard cases for older instruments, e.g. Lachenal concertinas. https://mcneelamusic.com/concertina-cases/premium-concertina-hard-case-for-the-phoenix-regondi/

You can..Play a few tunes and then enjoy checking for those delicate blemishes in the mirror, ( you must put the mirror back inside though!)😊
John Wild Posted June 19 Posted June 19 1 hour ago, Theo said: I've just found this in my local Lidl: It looks good, except that it looks like it does not hold the bellows fully closed. To achieve that with this case, try applying an x-band, as recommended to me by Dave Elliott. available from Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Laufer-0515198-X-Bands-100mm-Diameter/dp/B0031RG2G0/ref=sr_1_4?crid=29AFPB3X6I9Z6&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.26KDy2futAColxcPA8Y6XW7K0h3THxPly8YiFckZcD-Kr0t8oFc0bPg7HGFx0gWPvs6UXsQYRDDK7_FrlKcseIq7lswjZ_KAE_jTftUXIIK0TsJqaE3GdeRTeGodK4ySJ-vtMhGq47-XQA2HKPm-KtI4yYaOW_rr9AK2aDInt3EL8wC9NAkpZhsXqbOBNvmpOq1yy9TLwyQ3oIdiMTu45lOweOjHFKq4lMaD-CaA5RIZJXfGCvP3NICJbRDiYht5qpOTIRyJcz0jWpVUlNMil_e0RQALPzcF0DaF-2ymyn4.YLB1PUoZxbm1WAcQ4smg9mji1d8_EEVM3h02npQexv8&dib_tag=se&keywords=x-bands&qid=1750341290&sprefix=x-bands%2Caps%2C88&sr=8-4&th=1

Alan Day Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Having seen some of the expressions and facial contortions. Some looking like I am going to murder this concertina after this recording .I think the mirror will stay where it is. Al🙂 1
jim troy Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Theo, What was the item in that soft case ? I think Crivit would be tools of some kind I'd pay 20 quid for that case on it's own, just so it doesn't have a high end expensive stuff I'll check their site to see when it's coming to Athlone, like ( giggle away, but Lidl for me is high end)
Paul Draper Posted June 20 Posted June 20 I recently bought a fishing tackle bag from Lidl with the idea of holding 2 concertinas but it was just a little too small. It makes an excellent melodeon bag though and I have attached a zippable bag from Flying Tiger to hold whistles. The concertinas are currently in a hard shell vanity case from Costco.
