Isaiah Posted May 29 Posted May 29 Hello all! As I'm practicing the English Concertina I thought it would be fun to learn some traditional session tunes, and found this video. I had two questions: First, are the ornamentations denoted with the sign that looks like a tilde (~) rolls (which to my understanding is when you play the note, above, the note, below and the note) or is it just quick repetition (what is the term for this? triplet and treble are some words I saw). Second, for playing repetitions are there general rules for which fingers to use? Generally it looks like for notes that would regularly be played with 2 are played by alternating between 2 and 3, and notes that are played by 1 are played by alternating between 1 and 2. If the note repeats more than twice rapidly do you you just go back and forth? or is it better to add other fingers? or is this just a whatever comes easier situation? On a final note, how would you manage the fingering for the first two bars of Morrison's Jig? Note this is specifically for the English Concertina. Thanks again! Keegan S.
Little John Posted June 13 Posted June 13 I would use my ring finger on the E and middle finger on the B.
Isaiah Posted June 18 Author Posted June 18 That's good to hear, that's what I'd been doing as I found it the most comfortable. I'm trying to avoid starting bad habits but I don't entirely know what bad habits are!
