chris rowe Posted May 22 Posted May 22 I have not seen one of these before, Wheatstone # 8253 has sound vents ??? in the sides, I could not find the number in the ledgers. 1
Rod Pearce Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Could that be a 6 instead of a 5? I have a Lachenal with number 196655 (I had assumed). The 6 and 5 are very similar similar. See attached
wes williams Posted May 22 Posted May 22 It looks like Lachenal made this, either for Wheatstone or for his own firm after he started. The main question here is which firm. If it was Wheatstone, near numbers suggest 1856, or if Lachenal then c.1862. So we have a fairly good idea on date, unless any of the experts can determine something different.
chris rowe Posted May 26 Author Posted May 26 How common were the side vents, this is the first that I have seen on Lachenal or Wheatstone ?

I enjoy observing anglos on the internet, I have seen a few in Lachenal (only 8 in nearly two decades). One was a C/G anglo with the Amboyna ends, which was listed in Barleycorn last year. gcoover Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Scan Tester's Crabb Anglo has metal ends and sides with vents, but I was surprised to find out it's not that loud. Dipper made an early one with metal ends and sides with vents, that they called the "Acoustic Band" model, and according to Colin it was very loud. Gary
doodle Posted May 27 Posted May 27 (edited) According to The Concertina Doctor, my Dipper with extended metal sides is the loudest anglo he's ever had through his hands! Edited May 27 by doodle
chris rowe Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 Thanks Wes, i think you are spot on, the levers certainly look like Lachenal, with the internal paperwork Wheatstone
