Very cool! How about adding a pivot where the support rod meets the gantry, and a piece of string or elastic from the back end of the rod down to the pedal, so that when you push the pedal the floor comes up and taps his feet, then a fraction of a second later the torso bounces up too? Something like this:

Years ago (in York) here in England...there was a fiddle player who used to play whilst having a large sort of puppet doll in form of a "Devil".  Which he attatched on a belt, to himself,  and had a wooden rod that made the devil jig about as he played and tapped his feet.

Thanks for making this drawing, that's a great idea! I've made a few with a design similar but not with the "pivots" or axels you mention. I'll give it a try. Thanks!
