Here is my performance of a minuet by Fernando Sor (1778-1839). The piece is written for guitar, but it works excellently on the concertina and is so fun to play.

Rally good performance ..yes it is  possible to play virtually any kind of music on a concertina if you want to.. outside of the tradition.🌝

Thanks Simon. The concertina continues to amaze me. I think of it like a violin, where performative expression is exchanged for harmonic expression.

Lovely! A really nice piece of music played really well. Thanks for sharing this.

Thanks for the kind words. You are welcome.

Great playing, I thought the concertina was a duet until I checked further. And with only 4 fold bellows! Very impressive.

Thank you. 4 is all I know, but I should really get more. I think even one more would make a big difference.

I use 5 folds on some good concertinas without a problem, but I only play melodies. So hats off to you.

Hi Turtle

I read your comments on your YouTube regarding the instrument. I think it is a nice sounding thing with a fair amount of potential. If it was mine I think I would get it fettled rather than replacing it (if I have understood your intentions correctly).
it probably only needs some valves replacing, and some reeds adjusting to make it respond better. A bigger set of bellows perhaps.

I think that a significantly better instrument would be quite costly. None of my business of course. Keep up the good work - after only 3 months playing you are doing so well.

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion. One thing I really want is steel reeds (mine are brass) so the high notes sound stronger. I do really like the sound of this one, but I'm not sure if it is better to save the repair cost for a new concertina.

Based on the classical guitar in the background, can we assume that @Turtle can play this minuet on the guitar, too?

Indeed.

Wonderful. I used to play it, too. In my long ago classical guitar days.

I have quite a few guitar recordings on my YouTube channel, if you're interested.

Lovely taste in music! I quite appreciate your uploads. I like Sor, having studied his works for classical ukulele.

Sor is my favorite composer. I'm not much into symphonic music, but Sor's music has a sort of Mozart-like, operatic quality that I love.

Sor was a contemporary of Beethoven but is often referred to as “the Mozart of the guitar.”

I have more often heard Sor described as "the Beethoven of the guitar", but his music is more reminiscent of Mozart's, to my ear.
