Turtle Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Here is my performance of a minuet by Fernando Sor (1778-1839). The piece is written for guitar, but it works excellently on the concertina and is so fun to play. sor-minuet-op25.pdf 8
SIMON GABRIELOW Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Rally good performance ..yes it is possible to play virtually any kind of music on a concertina if you want to.. outside of the tradition.🌝

The concertina continues to amaze me. I think of it like a violin, where performative expression is exchanged for harmonic expression.
symon Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Lovely! A really nice piece of music played really well. Thanks for sharing this.

Tiposx Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Great playing, I thought the concertina was a duet until I checked further. And with only 4 fold bellows! Very impressive.

Tiposx Posted March 28 Posted March 28 I use 5 folds on some good concertinas without a problem, but I only play melodies. So hats off to you.
Jim2010 Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Based on the classical guitar in the background, can we assume that @Turtle can play this minuet on the guitar, too?
Tiposx Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Hi Turtle I read your comments on your YouTube regarding the instrument. I think it is a nice sounding thing with a fair amount of potential. If it was mine I think I would get it fettled rather than replacing it (if I have understood your intentions correctly). it probably only needs some valves replacing, and some reeds adjusting to make it respond better. A bigger set of bellows perhaps. I think that a significantly better instrument would be quite costly. None of my business of course. Keep up the good work - after only 3 months playing you are doing so well. Cheers Tiposx

One thing I really want is steel reeds (mine are brass) so the high notes sound stronger. I do really like the sound of this one, but I'm not sure if it is better to save the repair cost for a new concertina. Edited April 18 by Turtle

Cliff Ermatinger Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Lovely taste in music! I quite appreciate your uploads. I like Sor, having studied his works for classical ukulele.

Sor is my favorite composer. I'm not much into symphonic music, but Sor's music has a sort of Mozart-like, operatic quality that I love.
