Ed Nardell Posted March 22 Posted March 22 (edited) I am new to the world of concertinas. I ordered the Stagi 46b Hayden Duet as the only "available" 46 button hybrid (accordion reed) Hayden instrument - not knowing that I would wait 5 months for it to be delivered. It finally arrived just a few weeks ago (March 1, 2025). You will see from my other posts here that I am a big fan of the instrument. It is nicely made, in tune, and the price I paid, about $1000 through Jim Laabs store in Wisconsin, is well under the current asking price (over $1500) at Liberty Bellows. However, during that 5 months waiting period I learned about the Peacock from Concertina Connection, a 42b hybrid. I decided to order the more expensive Peacock, and to cancel the Stagi - since I was never told it would take so long. But then the Stagi arrived - and the Peacock arrived shortly afterwards. They are very different instruments in size and sound. The Stagi is larger, more mellow and softer on the fingers. The Peacock is smaller, brighter, and considerably louder. I've considered keeping both instruments, the Stagi's for its 46 buttons - desirable for some pieces - and its mellow sound - which can sound great, as this rendition of Howl'sMoving Castle demonstrates. I will happily keep both concertina's if no one buys it. But I've just decided that I don't really need two instruments. For learning a new instrument late in life, focusing on one makes sense. So, I am willing to part with an almost new Stagi Hayden hybrid duet concertina for $200 less than I paid, plus the cost of shipping by the method of your choice. It comes with a padded gig bag. I posted it as an example of the Stagi being played well - since this nice instrument has some critics on this site.

Looking forward to your answer, best wishes Ralf Ralf, I am happy to sell the Stagi to you and ship it to Germany. It is new and in perfect tune, having arrived March 1, 2025 from one of the two US Stagi dealers (Troy Laabs, Wisconsin). I have never been paid by PayPal so will need to learn how that works. Because of the danger of fraud in such transactions, I will have to be paid in advance - before shipping. PayPal would certainly protect your interest as a buyer. You can see that I am a member in good standing in this community. Perhaps we should complete the details by email. My personal email is enardell@gmail.com. Do you have a shipping preference? I suspect it could be as much as $100 and will need to be insured. Apparently, DHL is the best shipper for large and valuable packages, and I just found this 40% discount offer: Please email me directly to discuss the details. I will need to make a donation to Concertina.net for the use of this site to sell the instrument. DISCOVER40 With DHL promo code: DISCOVER40 you can save 40%* whenever you ship with a credit card. No account is needed! Apply the DHL coupon code DISCOVER40 on MyDHL+ to save 40%* on your next online shipment.
Ed Nardell Posted March 28 Author Posted March 28 It looks like Paypal is the best option for payment: How do I receive money to my account with PayPal? To accept the money, you must open a PayPal Balance account and confirm your email address. After that, you can receive money when someone pays to your email address or mobile number. You'll receive a message through the app letting you know you have money available.
David Barnert Posted March 28 Posted March 28 FYI, I’ve been using PayPal for years, both for paying and receiving and never had a problem with it.

Thanks David, but PayPal and shipping may not be necessary as a local musician is coming over Wednesday to try out the Stagi.
Ralf Bujotzek Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Hi Ed, I send 2 emails to you, maybe they are in your spams? Would be nice to hear from you, if you do not want to sell anymore to me. Didn't we had a deal? Ralf

Ralf Hey Ralf, I haven't received any emails from you (nothing in spam) and presumed you weren't interested in pursuing. To confirm, my email is enardell@gmail.com. I did get an email just after our exchange from a local Boston church musician who wants to try it on Wednesday. You seem more serious about it than she does, but I'll let her try it. She may just be curious. It would be much easier for me (and the instrument) not to have to pack it up safely and send it back to Europe! But, I will be happy to sell it to you if she declines to take it home. I will let you know on Wednesday. Try my email again please. If it's yours, after Wednesday we can arrange the Paypal payment and I'll buy appropriate packaging to be sure it gets to you safely - and insured. Where in Germany? Sincerely, Ed Nardell
DaveRo Posted March 30 Posted March 30 @Ed Nardell It would be better to exchange details with potential buyers using the Personal Message facility rather than in a public thread like this. Click/tap the other person's avatar and then the little envelope.

DaveRo Posted March 31 Posted March 31 One advantage of publishing an email address on the initial advert is that a non-member can make a quick enquiry without joining. But PMs are better for contact details, anything financial - and establishing trust between the parties. If I were a potential buyer I would be very wary of sending money to a Paypal account without having connected that account irrefutably to the seller. Especially if either person were unfamiliar with the process. And I would want to know - either as buyer or seller - what will happen if the money doesn't arrive, like Ralf's emails apparantly didn't. I wouldn't fancy using an automated dispute resolution procedure. 'Ease of use' is usually the enemy of security. The seller doesn't necessarily have to arrange shipping BTW. When I bought a concertina from Canada (I'm in the UK) I chose the shipper, level if insurance etc., and arranged for it to be collected. I sent the delivery labels and customs documents to the seller to stick on the parcel. I only had to trust the seller would hand it over. I had to pay UK customs dues to get it released and delivered. When I sold my Stagi Hayden 46 - to someone in China - I required him to arrange shipping and import. Which was fortunate since it got lost in China for a while. But that was his problem to sort out in his language.
