Turtle Posted March 7 Posted March 7 (edited) audio recording video recording (different from the above) Hey everyone. I'd like feedback on this practice recording. It's tricky because my concertina has a really slow attack on some notes, which makes playing in time difficult in some cases. Particularly in the basses. Thanks. EDIT: I've added a video recording since that is probably a better way to receive feedback, especially for bellows control. I flubbed the end a bit, so consistency is something to work on. Let me know what else you think I can work on, if you want. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy it well enough. Regondi-EtudeBbMajor.pdf Edited March 8 by Turtle 4

juris Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Dear "Turtle," Wonderful to hear you playing this! I notice you seem to use the four-finger system as indicated in the notation. I think the two octave spread of b flat at the ending would be very difficult with the conventional three-finger system. I've never seen this Regondi study before and will give it a try with the three-finger method. Unfortunately, I have a serious hearing impairment which makes me wear very powerful hearing aids leading to difficulty in hearing recorded music, particularly on the computer. What I do hear sounds very good. Congratulations. Sincerely, Juris

I decided when I started playing that I would to commit to the four-finger method, and it has worked out well for me, even if I occasionally miss a button.
Cliff Ermatinger Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Hi, Turtle. although you're a much better player than me, and I'm all the better after hearing you play, I'd say that the audio recording reveals a player who's on the way to interiorizing the tune. The video recording was probably done before that - or perhaps the thought of filming yourself put you on edge. it seemed less sure and refined. When I prepare for Highland bagpipe solo competitions, I'll sometime record myself. For some reason, knowing that my phone is recording messes with my brain and the execution comes off worse than when I'm simply enjoying playing my kitchen. I always look forward to your offerings. Thank you for them.

Thank you for them. Thank you, Cliff. These are good observations and I will take them into consideration in my practice. My secret to the first recording is that I played it slower. It's just so fun to play this piece fast.. even if I'm not 100% there yet. I think I was feeling much more relaxed during the first recording, too. Thank you for your encouraging words.
