Lachenal New Model English Concertina

Just sharing what I found written on the bellows of my Lachenal New Model.  It’s serial number 44723.

The problem with all these handwritten inscriptions inside concertinas is that we don't know exactly what most of them mean! Our current estimates would put this one being built by Lachenal around 5 years after 1901, so perhaps Robert Brown was born in 1901, and wrote this from 1911 or later when he acquired the instrument.

 

We have a similar report for 42146 which says it was sold in April 1904, and that fits in with our estimates, but again we don't know anything about the context of the sale. Against this we have an inscription dated 1900 in an instrument numbered 43533.

 

These inscriptions are a bit of a mystery!
