RobW Posted January 31 Posted January 31 My wife has just decided to take up the concertina and has been fortunate to have been given a 35b Crane Duet. We are very interested to learn anything about it's history, particularly the date of manufacture. Without opening it up, we can find two numbers - "1134" - engraved into the wood below one of the straps, and "313" (I think) inked on the bellows, visible through the fretwork. Are either of these the serial number, and would they help in dating it? Please excuse our general level of ignorance!

The 1134 is a Crane and Sons number - the C&S before it stands for Crane and Sons. The 313 is a Lachenal number, and we can estimate the date from that. I've put the date estimate in our 'Dating A Lachenal From The Serial Number' thread as we like to keep these estimates together. 1
