James Fitton Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Happy New Year to one and all! Here's a setting of a phrase taken from Khalil Gibran: Be not heedful of the morrow, for sufficient for today is the miracle thereof. It's for a quartet of two concertinas, an accordion, and piano. 2
Tiposx Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Very nice and lively, thank you. What concertinas did you play? And I could hear a percussion instrument in there? Cheers from an Ashton-U-L lad in exile!
James Fitton Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 Thanks, Tiposx! I can almost see A-u-L out of the window as we speak... The concertinas are both English, a modern Wakker Parnassus, and an approximately 100-years old Wheatstone tenor-treble. There are no percussion instruments as such, just the bits of bellows and mechanism noises you inevitably get with boxes of almost any type. I remember John Kirkpatrick once being asked at a workshop how we can avoid making those noises, and he smiled and said "but it's free extra percussion!" and talked about how to make the most of it, rather than attempt to avoid it. So yes, a quartet with some free extra percussion....
Tiposx Posted January 1 Posted January 1 (edited) Very nice ‘Tinas. I used to have an TT Aeola about the same age. (I just checked, it was built in 1928) Your boxes formed really good percussion section. Edited January 1 by Tiposx Fact check
