So I guess the next question is what’s your musical background? Do you play other instruments? Do you know anything about music theory, how to use chords, etc.? I’m not in Boston, I’m in Albany, 150 miles away. I could perhaps get you started by zoom or FaceTime if nobody closer comes out of the woodwork (I’ve been playing a Hayden 46 for about 35 years), but I doubt I’m strong on teaching skills.

I do play recorders and have studied with a world-class teacher (John Tyson) for years. I should be better than I am, but my real passion is singing these days - open mic jazz, standards, and some classical. I have two voice lessons a week - one classical. I do know some music theory,  I am really drawn to the concertina and love the playing of soloduet on Youtube. I've been trying to play Oblivion on recorder. Of course, recorder is one melody line - a solo or ensemble instrument.  I did have piano for 5 years when my kids were taking lessons and knew quite a few chords at the time.  I let that go due to work travel and family limitations. Now, nearly retired, I think I could teach myself to play concertina with the duet system, but a teacher would help I am sure.

I just noted that you are a retired anesthesiologist.  I am a pulmonologist, professor at Harvard (Brigham & Women's) with an academic interest in TB and global health - again, nearly retired - depending on whether some pending research grant applications are funded.  But the plan is to pass those on if they happen - and devote even more time to music if they don't.

I also play recorder and know John Tyson’s work, have seen him perform but don’t know him personally (we were introduced briefly by Jacqueline Schwab 30+ years ago after one of his “Renaissance, Man” performances). I get to the Boston Early Music Festival every two years and Early Music Week at Pinewoods Camp (Plymouth, MA) every summer. I also play the cello.

Do you have the concertina yet? Why don't you send me a private message once you have it (or if you want to get started on the app that you asked about in the other thread) and we’ll see what we can work out.

Just hover over my gargoyle image (if using a mouse or trackpad) or touch it on a touchscreen. Either way you should see a “message” button. Or respond to the one I just sent you.

Off-topic question for David Barnert (or anyone else), if I may...

When I hover over my 'mugshot', I don't see that "message" button, though I do see a "find content" button. I looked through the options, but couldn't see how to get that "message" button. How, please?

Thank you.

which browser are you using? This site has drastically different interfaces depending on whether it thinks you are using a smartphone or not. Even switching from Portrait to Landscape mode may give you a very different UI.

Ruediger is probably right. I only ever access concertina.net on my laptop. But to answer Roger's question, get to the person’s Member page by clicking on their “mugshot” (mine doesn’t look much like me) and find the “message” button near the top center of that window. At least that’s how it works on my MacBook Air running the Safari browser (but then, the “hover” thing also works).

Do you mean what you say?

You're supposed to use the 'mugshot' of the member you want to send a message to.

Of course!!! How very, very stupid of me!!!

You are exactly right. My only excuse for asking such a daft question is that it was 6-o-clock in the morning, and I hadn't put my brains in the right way up yet. What a berk I am...🙁

David, RaC, thank you for trying to answer my non-question. Ed, sorry for hi-jacking your thread with such a barmy question!

There was value in it! I had no idea how many people were reading this thread until you lured some of them into the open (I was going to say “...out of the woodwork,” but I’ve already used that idiom in this thread).
