Hi everyone,

Black colour full screen appears when I try to open a digital sheet music file for concertina practice on my laptop. Iam using Adobe Acrobat Reader on Windows 10, and everything else on my system works fine. This issue started recently and makes it difficult to access and practice my music.

I have tried restarting the software and updating it, but the problem persists. Has anyone else faced this black screen issue with digital music software or displays? Any tips or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Where did the pdf come from?

There was an issue* with pdfs from EasyABC printing black pages a few months back. The circumstances were different to yours - it was Linux - and they were multi-page scores. In the course of investigation I discovered that they printed OK on Windows 10 using Sumatra. So you could try that.

Sumatra is a free lightweight pdf printer which I've used for years in preference to Acrobat.

I only just saw this, but DaveRo beat me to it.

I've used the Sumatra PDF viewer/printer for years too. It was recommended by a weel-kent member of this parish.

I use the version available from the PortableApps web site. It takes up ~30Mb of disc space as opposed to ~10 times that much space (or more) for Adobe Acrobat. Very handy if you have a small machine (like the one I'm using now). I've never had any problems with Sumatra.

I also use Firefox, Chrome, Open Office (replacement for MS Word), GIMP and many other utilities from PortableApps.

Later edit: I should have said that PortableApps is PC-only, as far as I'm aware...

Footnote: grepwin (windowed version of grep) is particularly useful for globally searching text files for particular text strings - and replacing them globally if you're brave enough to do that. You can also search using regular expressions. I use it on my ABC files all the time...
