Hello! Long time lurker first time poster.

I'm contemplating a concertina purchase from Barleycorn to Canada. Has anyone here had experience doing that, and could you provide an idea of what you paid in duties/ taxes etc? It seems like brexit made things very complicated and it has been a long time since I've purchases anything at all from the UK.

I'm trying to keep it around £2000 or less for the concertina itself because the exchange rate is bananas, and there will be shipping on top of it as well.

I tried looking it up online and find the government website categories to be very confusing, so I thought I'd check here. I also hope this is the right place to post this.

Thanks!

I've brought concertinas into Canada from the UK.  I always ask the seller to put the Harmonized  Tariff Code # 9205.90.15.00 on the shipping label.  Also I  use Royal Mail/Canada Post rather than UPS, Fed-ex etc.  The courier companies always charge a customs brokerage fee, even if no duty is payable, and it seems to be pretty arbitrary.  Using the tariff code and Can Post I have never had to pay anything except GST, which is collected on delivery.

Wow thanks so much Bill that's fantastic information. That is very true about the courier companies, I've never been charged more than from DHL, just awful.

It doesn't look like that exact code is available when i look online, but I will admit I am very unclear as to why someone would use one and not the other.

I believe this is the up to date list
