richard Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Here's link to a website about John Kelly, the great Irish musician. It's got a lot of recordings and other documents. https://johnkellycapelstreet.ie/ 1
Peter Laban Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 (edited) It is a very fine site, set up and maintained by his granddaughter, webdesigner and concertinplayer Aoife (and I am pretty sure a post was made here shortly after it was launched five years ago). While at it, the Kelly family's recent(-ish )recording, 'a family tradition' , celebrating old John and their family's music is worth looking at too. Edited October 13, 2024 by Peter Laban 1
gcoover Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 Danny Carnahan told me a great story about seeing John Kelly playing live many years ago... John was playing concertina while leaning back on a wooden chair's two back legs, as he apparently often did. And yes, the inevitable happened and the chair tipped over backwards. All the horrified audience could see was the bottom of the seat with two legs sticking out. And he still finished the tune, in that position! 1
