marktinkerman Posted September 29 Posted September 29 (edited) Hi I recently acquired a Louis Lachenal 32 button steel reed "rosewood" ended concertina. Number 22886. Any info much appreciated. Mark Edited September 29 by marktinkerman Add picture
Sean M Posted September 30 Posted September 30 I don't know a ton but I think two good places to look are: http://www.concertina.com/chambers/lachenal-production/ That second link has 35 pages so a lot to look through but I quoted that specific post because it mentions the labels changing from "Louis Lachenal" to "Lachenal & Co" around 1873. I was skimming through but couldn't find any Anglos in the 22,000 range of serial numbers. Seems like English, Anglos and Duets all have separate serial numbering lists
David Barnert Posted September 30 Posted September 30 It would be a good idea to post a query at this thread: Be sure to mention that it’s a 32-button anglo.
d.elliott Posted November 8 Posted November 8 There are three serialisation sequences for Lachenal, English, Anglo and Duets, yours is an Anglo and 22886 comes in at an estimated 1872 vintage. This is taken from the information released to me by the C.net gurus who host the thread.
Richard Mellish Posted November 9 Posted November 9 (edited) There is no sign of an air button, so the picture is presumably of the left-hand end. Although one button is missing, there would be 16, with one extra (relative to the usual 30 button layout) on the middle row. Is that unusual? Edit: corrected "right-hand" to "left-hand". Richard Mellish Posted November 10 Posted November 10 I did of course mean left-hand; now corrected. Meanwhile, any observations about the 16 button layout on that end?
Clive Thorne Posted November 11 Posted November 11 I've seen 32 button Lachenals in adverts, Barleycorn listing etc, but not in the flesh, so can't comment. I'm sure that someone will soon.
Theo Posted November 11 Posted November 11 32 button Lachenals are fairly common. Sometimes the two extra buttons play additional notes sometimes they are sound effects.
