Peter Smith Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 (edited) I am selling my 38 button Scates English Concertina, which is in exceptional condition for it’s age. The concertina Scates number 98 and the address on the label (49, Frith Street, Soho, London) dates it to between 1844-1847 (information from www.concertinas.org.uk Minor Makers and Dealers Update). This makes it around 180 years old. The concertina is completely unrestored, very clean both inside and out and looks like it has hardly ever been played. Everything appears to be original. The bellows are air tight. All reeds are present & play and the thumb straps are fine. The ends are complete. None of the bolts & screws holding the concertina together are seized. It also comes in its original case. The concertina is more or less in tune with itself and appears to be tuned to A=446Hz. The only repairs are the professional replacement of a couple of buttons and repairing an obvious cracks in the right end. I am looking for £350 + postage and am open to offers. If you have any questions or would like more pictures or a sound file, please message me with your e-mail address. Edited April 13 by Peter Smith Now sold 1
