64-key Wheatstone Aeola tenor/treble

Recommended Posts

If you have an irrational prejudice against tenor/trebles with 8 extra buttons at the top end, let me invite you to set it aside for a few moments.

This is as good a TT Aeola as has passed through my hands in the past 20 years. Made in 1913 (SN 25935), it is a delight to play - wonderfully responsive and beautifully balanced throughout its range - and has been fitted with new pads, valves, dampers, bushes and straps. The bellows ends have had a cosmetic re-bind, the woodwork has been re-finished in French polish, and it has been tuned to modern concert pitch.

Now, to return to those extra bat-squeak buttons. Let us suppose you were buying a beautifully restored vintage car. If the vendor said to you "I'll fit a sunroof for you at no extra cost", you wouldn't hesitate, would you? True, you'd probably only use it half a dozen times a year - but how nice to have it! So it is with the extra buttons up at the dusty end: you may not need them often, but how smug you'll feel when you do!

As always, if you're within striking distance of Norwich, you're more than welcome to come and have a squeeze. And if not, give me a call anyway, and we'll try to arrange something.

Price: £3450 (realistic offers considered)
