WOO BIN KIM Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Hello, I bought a Rochelle anglo concertina earlier this year. I couldn't play often because I didn't have time, but I noticed something weird when I played recently. There is no sound when pressing certain buttons and pushing the concertina!! Please check the picture below for which button it is. Pulling the concertina makes a sound, but pushing doesn't make a sound, only the sound of the wind dropping. I tried to open the concertina and check it out, but I couldn't try because I was afraid it would break more. First of all, I asked the manufacturer. But sending repairs is too far. Let me know how to do it if it's resolved with a simple action! Thank you so much!
RAc Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 (edited) Possibly just a clogged reed, fairly easy to find out and fix (clean the reed by sliding a piece of paper between the reed and the shoe). If you are reasonably careful, no harm should be expected. As a concertina owner, you will need to get used to opening up your box, I hate to tell you... Edited August 10, 2024 by RAc 1
SIMON GABRIELOW Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Yes concertinas can have their little problems particularly if not played that frequently.. maybe if used a bit more the defect will clear by itself. Sometimes opening up instrument can itself free up the reed, as it is. 1
Nigel Champion Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Try pushing and pulling the bellows vigorously while pressing the problem button AND 2 or 3 buttons close to it. I find this works more often than not. Nigel 1

I plucked up the courage and opened the small box! I have a cat at home.. Even if the cat hair was removed inside, the symptoms were the same. But now I have no fear of opening a concertina! 1

I think I was scared because this is the first time I've done this.. I tried it with Nigel's method and it makes a normal sound! It's so nice to hear a pretty sound again! I should play concertina more often in the future!! 1
