Now in the FOR SALE forum.

This is a Lachenal 89 key Maccann duet concertina serial number 1734.

As far as I can see it's a pretty unusual beast and I have been trying to find out more about it but without much luck so far.

The condition of this concertina is as follows, one key on the left hand side is not working and there are a few others that are out of tune. The 8 fold bellows are in good condition with no air leaks.

What date might this instrument have been built and does anybody know of any others like this out there?

Thanks for any info in advance.

Hi Mike,

Don't understand why you've added this here. Was it a mistake and were you after date estimates? I assume they are 48K? If so  12814 is estimated as circa 1867, and 18864 is circa 1873, right at the end of the Elizabeth Lachenal period.

Steve - This concertina is already on the Lachenal database. Past history says it's been through Chris Algar, and also on ebay.

Very interesting, thanks. It is the same physical size as an 82b (81 notes + air) Lachenal Maccann I have worked on, and the reed pans share many similarities. On the 81 note version of the design, the left hand is missing the four inner chambers near the thumb hole, and the right hand is missing the three chambers in the middle of the bottom row. I'm not sure what the extra notes are. It looks like they are probably in the overlap region.
