Matthew Heumann Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 FESTIVAL DE LA CONCERTINA 2022 parts 1 & 2 It popped up as "recommended" in Youtube, how could I have missed it before? Very different stuff from Bolivia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCrA_T7IDxs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw7cUt9TaLM 4
gcarrere Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Lovely! Thanks for sharing. A very different way to play the English concertina, using the bellows like a violin bow. And such a lively, beautiful repertoire !
Jake Middleton-Metcalfe Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 That is very interesting, I have never heard of this festival before. Or indeed the English concertina being used in Bolivian music. Thank you for sharing this.
vpo Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 EC is ‘the’ concertina in Bolivian music unlike Brazil/Argentina where the Bandoneon thrived. Interesting technique.. I notice a number of players using 2 fingers in the pinky support and playing with only 2 fingers. Thanks for bringing to our attention Matt.
Matthew Heumann Posted July 18, 2024 Author Posted July 18, 2024 The thing most notable to me was the constant almost frantic pumping of the bellows, treating it as though it was an Anglo. Couldn't tell if it was due to leaky bellows or just a regional eccentricity. An earlier video that I watched featuring one of the players sounded like he played every note with octaves.
Peter Laban Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Bolivia and concertina come up on the forum with some regularity, do a search. Here is an older thread with a bunch of videos linked:
