Johnny Todd.
.
A cracking wee melody, composed by Tony Cuffe for the old traditional song, which saves folks from confusing the usual tune with the theme music for Z Cars. ;-).
Played on Hammered Dulcimer, English Concertina, Tenor Guitar, Fiddle, Trump, Tenor Banjo & Bodhran.
Lockdown Video #741

Cheers,

Dick

The original tune melody one of the very first that I learned to play on Anglo concertina in 1971, a year before I took up the English concertina. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, you are right, the new melody's a cracker!

Thanks Dick!

We often play the original melody for the singer at our weekly pub session & yes, it's a good tune too. 👍

Ah, Tony Cuffe. He left a great many fine tunes and songs and departed this life too soon.

Is there a jaw harp in there Dick, or is that an unusual string on the hammer dulcimer?

As teenagers in Glasgow when Z-cars started, being ignorant and not knowing any better, it was generally assumed that the Z-cars theme was an Orange marching tune.🙂

Well, that'd make a change from all those Irish Jigs they pinch & turn into marches. 😄
