gcoover
Coming soon from Rollston Press... Reg Hall's detailed biography of Anglo concertina player Scan Tester: I Never Played to Many Posh Dances: Scan Tester, Sussex Musician, 1887-1972. 148 pages, including interviews with Scan and other musicians, plus many rare historical photographs. Originally published in 1990 and out-of-print for many years, this re-issue is not just a photocopy - it is being digitally reconstructed to exactly match the original, and will soon be available again in paperback and Kindle. Since this is a reissue of Reg's book there is no music or tablature - but plans are in the works for it to be followed up by The Anglo Concertina Music of Scan Tester in conjunction with Will Duke. I'll post a tune of Scan's shortly as an example of his playing style. It is an honor to be able to bring this wonderful book back to life, and it is highly recommended to anyone interested in the history of village musicians from the last century. (And yes, I know there is a low-res scan of the book on a website, but this is for those who like books and higher-res reading material). AndyNT
That's definitely something for my Christmas present list! BTW when are you hoping to publish the music book? This year?
gcoover
The music book with Anglo tab might be out by the end of the year? I'll be in the UK most of September, and will be meeting up with Will Duke to go through Scan's tunes. I also have plans to meet up with quite a few other players for future books - Mandy Murray, Mick Tems, John Kirkpatrick, Andy Turner, Rob Harbron, Brian Peters... Dan Worrall
Congrats Gary! Anyone who has seen this long out of print book - can it be almost 35 years old? - knows just how good it is in describing life of musicians in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century in England. So great that more people will be able to enjoy it.
gcoover
NOW AVAILABLE! Just yesterday, Reg Hall gave his blessing upon the new reprint, and his detailed and insightful biography of Sussex musician Scan Tester, titled I Never Played to Many Posh Dances, is now available again, worldwide on Amazon in paperback and Kindle, and also through Red Cow Music in the UK. This new reprint is 99.9% identical to the original and has been carefully and meticulously recreated from scratch since the original files were no longer available. Hard to believe, but pdf's weren't yet invented in 1990! Coming soon, The Anglo Concertina Music of Scan Tester with Anglo tablature, hopefully out by the end of the year. Attached is a sneak peak of one of the tunes. Gary Vienna-Waltz-ScanT-ANGLO.pdf Edited July 30 by gcoover

Steve Morrison
Remember Amazon won’t be at any Folk Festivals with a stall or there to help you when you need some assistance with your concertina. Buy from a music shop and keep music live !
