Notemaker Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 Tried to identify some of the contestants instruments. There are some Suttners, and I think a couple of Jeffries. Anybody else interested? Here is a link to the TG4 webcast. https://www.tg4.ie/ga/player/seinn/?pid=6333143493112&series=Fleadh 2023&genre=Ceol 2
Takayuki YAGI Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 (edited) One from 1:05:40 looks like 7 mount (smaller model?) to me. By the way I cannot find the 4th player (resulted in the 1st position in the competition) playing in the video. I only see him leaving the stage near 38:20. Am I missing something? Leah Velleman Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 love the "put your phone away" warning: "the tune your mobile phone plays might not be the one the competitor plays, so it might not be a good match" 1
Leah Velleman Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 Thanks for posting this! I've never seen anything from a fleadh before, it's an interesting look into things 1

No, I do not see him either. Strangely, he is not even included in the "highlight" compilation squeezed in before the winner's announcement from 2:12:xx up to 2:16:xx, so evidently the moderators did not have him on the short list. He (Colm Browne) apparently comes from a muscal background and family (judging from the collection on youtube featuring him). The other thing that strikes me funny is that even though female contestants appeared to be in the majority, two of the three winners were male. 1

Colm is from Cree on Clare and has a great musical pedigree, last year he won the O'Riada medal for his playing. Noel Hill did the presentation of the medal during the 2022 Willie Clancy week. I posted a pic of that at the time. Lovely player. Edited August 12, 2023 by Peter Laban 1
Ptarmigan Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 Thanks for posting. I too was disappointed not to see the winner, but I did find this video of him & his brothers playing. 1

You are right about the winner, he is not playing in the video !! so strange. Not sure about the model above (smaller 7Mount as a different figure for the logo in fretboard...) The one at 01:52:50 is definitively a 7mount small model. And I am pretty sure the first one too at 15:38 (logo on strap ?), and maybe the one at 40:02 too (she is my favorite, love her tune selection and style, sad she is not in the winner). Lol I see 7mount concertina everywhere. Nicolas
papawemba Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 Forgot to say thank you for the vid/link, it's the first time I see this competition, very interesting ! Is there other years videos of Fleadh ?
