Rikki Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 (edited) Here's something I've never seen before - someone has replaced the ends of a Lachenal Anglo with some made of cast aluminium. Whilst on the face of it it might perhaps have seemed a good solution if the existing ends were damaged - it has made it feel a little heavier. Edited March 6, 2023 by Rikki typo 1
SIMON GABRIELOW Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 I suppose I it does the job that's the main thing; after all they are made to be played not just displayed.
Steve Schulteis Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Wild. It looks well executed. It's not to my taste, but if it was anodized (black being the obvious safe color) it might look very nice.
alex_holden Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 It kind of looks like they took an impression from a wooden upper action box, so the metal is a lot thicker than it really needed to be.
Leonard Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 I like that tough and sturdy look, thick as wooden ends and not so shiny. Is aluminium much heavier than rosewood or ebony?
Leonard Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 I looked it up myself. Aluminium is about 2½ times heavier than ebony. That considerable....

I guess that if the weight was a problem you stick the end on a milling machine and machine over half of the metal away, with no degredation in performance.
Rikki Posted March 7, 2023 Author Posted March 7, 2023 Yes it definitely felt a little heavier than the norm and could perhaps benefit from a little milling/ thinning. I still can't believe that it was sold as silver painted mahogany ends. Well - that's Ebay for you!

Jake Middleton-Metcalfe Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 very very thick metal! Are the sides of the action box in that metal as well? It sort of looks as if they are.
