Reed condition

Recommended Posts

A pronounced twist on the end of a harmonium reed is an attempt to make the stop the reed belongs to sound different to the others.  In the concertina context the exaggerated gap between the twisted part of the reed and the frame could be considered a very large leak, making the reed assembly very inefficient.

To post an image, open the reply box, and drag your image to it by left-clicking on it in the folder it is stored in without taking your finger off, and let go of the mouse button to drop it in the message. Or use the .Choose files. link on the screen.

Hope this makes sense.

You'll get whole sets of reeds in an American organ that are deliberately twisted when it is made, it's to achieve a particular sound on one of the stops. I doubt if you could straighten them out successfully, especially after the length of time they'll have been like that.
