Ritchie_Kay
I suppose it is pointless posting a comparison between an Edgley concertina and a Stagi. But I'm glad that I had a Stagi to take me through the "where are all the notes" phase. It made knocking out the first tune on the Edgley (which I received two days ago) a very pleasurable experience. I had come to the conclusion that C/G instruments were pitched a little too high and was wondering whether I should have gone for one with a lower setting but now I realise that was just the "thinness" of the tone on the Stagi. The Edgely sounds a lot mellower even on the high notes which means that you can play and enjoy the tune which is a new experience. Now I am getting into a comparison. The Edgley is in tune, standard chords sound as if the notes belong together. I can play an ABc triple without a perculiar noise as I change hands. I don't have to let the bellows dictate the rythym. Ornaments can be played quickly etc, etc, etc. What's more it looks like a concertina and feels like a concertina and the tone is beautiful. Basically, I am very, very happy with it. I am not sure that I deserve it but I will work on that. I can't really compare it to any other good instruments but it seems pretty damn good to me. lildogturpy
When I went to a workshop run by Frank in Ottawa recently he brought his new design, where the chamber for each read changes in depth along its length, I believe being deeper at the free end of the reed. The sound from this instrument played side-by-side with another Edgely design with a flat reed pan was more rich to my ears. Almost made me want to play the anglo
Chris Timson
Almost made me want to play the anglo <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Go on, let yourself go. You Know It Makes Sense! Chris
bill_mchale
When I went to a workshop run by Frank in Ottawa recently he brought his new design, where the chamber for each read changes in depth along its length, I believe being deeper at the free end of the reed. The sound from this instrument played side-by-side with another Edgely design with a flat reed pan was more rich to my ears. Almost made me want to play the anglo If you only knew the power of the Anglo . I have one of the new design. The more I play it the more I like it. I knew it was fast but didn't realize how fast until a friend picked up the instrument and started doing the equivalent of what Billy McComiskey calls a Cran on a Button Accordion (its actually not a Cran at all, but that is what Billy calls it); essentially you hit the note then use three fingers to hit the note in rapid succession and then hit the note again all in the same time that you would play a long roll. In any case, I can't do that ornament myself, but I was able to get something close sounding to it this past week. BTW, the fellow who did the ornament... well he doesn't play the concertina, he just was looking at mine. He does however play the pipes, fiddle and flute really well; I have also heard that he can play the piano really well and the whistle. The fact that he was able to pick up my accordion and concertinas and get tunes out of them with ornaments shows just how annoyingly talented he is. -- Bill
richard
Hello Folks I'd like to chime in about my new Edgley. I really love it!! I just received my G/D. It is so much fun to play. It is very fast and smooth to play. It is almost metaphysical. I received my Edgley while I was waiting for my Linota to come back for a gereral tune up. I was just hoping my Linota's action and response would be as great as the Edgley. The tone of my Edgley is very rich. Richard
