Is this really a Jeffries?

  Does this 20B appear to be an authentic C. Jeffries 20 button concertina?

  I understand in the past some sellers have enhanced value of their concertinas by applying the Jeffries stamping. The font of the stamping seems to be consistent with pictures of other pre- Praed St. Jeffries.

  The fretwork seems a little coarse but the bellows embossing looks good.

  What do you think?

  I guess the price is a tad optimistic. 🤑

Yes, it's a Jeffries that was made by John Crabb.

 

This model is more-commonly found with 26 keys and they have a very nice sound, but the price being asked for this 20-key one is utterly ludicrous.

That looks like a ridiculous price for the instrument even if it did not need extensive work doing on it.

Unfortunately there are people out there who hear about concertinas being worth a lot, may even have heard the name Jeffries/Wheatstone etc, and immediately get an inflated idea of what something they have may be worth.

I paid £350 for a 26 button model, its tuned B/F sharp. being repaired at the moment by Andrew Norman. The price they are asking is crazy.

That concertina has been on ebay for months. Seems even those who don't know about concertinas won't pay that price.

That sounds like it is in old concert pitch. It could be a CG.

I did look into this Alan but the reeds are a bit thin so I will leave it, its got a lovely tone.
