Has anyone ever tried using the bellows from a cheap new Chinese unit on an older unit like this? I found one on the Walmart website for $180. The construction and design looks basically identical, 3x3 chambers with two cards attaching in the center . It looks like a knockoff of the Hohner D40. Probably made by the same company with all the same parts. The case it comes with looks identical also. It just seems like the simplest option that should be pretty durable rather than working with 90 year old materials and adhesives. I just love the sound of this old thing. I think I would just have to drill new holes to match the old cover plates.
It is still quite playable with approximately a 10 second drop, but I’m afraid to play it very hard, although I have been, if there wouldn’t be a reasonable means of repair. It looks like it was never used before me. All the wear on it has come from my use over the past two weeks, and it has started leaking more over this period even though I’ve repaired 2 significant leaks when I got it. Any pointers from you pros would be appreciated.

Or should I just play her till she blows, learning all I can in the process, then springing for a McNeela Phoenix?
