Julia M F
I've been thinking of investing in an instumental upgrade. I play Anglo Concertina. I see most of the better/pricier instruments have metal filigree over the ends. Does anyone have experience playing outside in cold weather with such an instrument? I'm not sure there's any real difference between how wood and metal ended instruments react to cold. I've played both in very cold weather with no problems. Gail_Smith
its not as bad as playing a trumpet or tuba. I use fingerless gloves with a metal-ended instrument and its OK.

I use glove liners that I have bought at EMS. Even with the fingers intact I have no trouble playing (metal ends and buttons) outdoors in sub-freezing weather (darn Morris dancers and their “Winter Traditions”). I suppose one could even put fingerless gloves over these, but I’ve never found it necessary. After all these years, I bet these gloves could play the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance without my help.

Me too -same glove liners. Same Abbotts Bromley tune. Same crazy traditions.
