conzertino
There is a Boyd concertina to be auctioned together with a violin... Boyd Can anybody tell from the picture, if it is a Wheatstone or Lachenal Boyd?? I think that the flat buttons point towards Lachenal... Geoff Wooff
Looks like a Lachenal by the tiny screws that hold the metal ends in place. The Wheatstone version would have the screws on the inside of the frames. Yes the flat buttons and the lip on the outer edge of the finger plate suggest Lachenal. The Auction notification does not say H.Boyd. An interested bidder would want to see a photo of the right hand fretwork. Stephen Chambers
I'd reckon Lachenal too, and what a pity they don't show the right-hand fretwork to see if H Boyd is fret-cut into it - the instrument is also a bit unusual in being only a 48-key, when Boyds are more-usually 56-key trebles, but I've had one like it in the past that had an H. Boyd label in the lid of the case.
david robertson
They do now show the RH end, and there's no 'H Boyd' in the fretwork. Does this indicate that it was sold by Boyd, but not made for them?
Theo
I think that is the most likely interpretation. I’ve previously seen a basic Lachenal English with a paper label for H Boyd Newcastle.

When I had one the same as it, years ago, I wondered if it was because it was an early one - before Harry Boyd started getting his name cut into the fretwork. Otherwise, maybe only the (more-usual) 56-key treble ones had that feature?
