Cheshire Chris Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 Anyone have (or know of) a Crane duet in decent condition for sale at the moment? Ideally Lachenal or Wheatstone, 48 or 55 buttons. Preferably in the UK. Thanks, Chris
Peter Smith Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 I would suggest contacting Chris Algar at Barleycorn (01270 879958) - unless you have done so already! He has sold a few Cranes recently from his website but may have others in stock.
Cheshire Chris Posted August 27, 2021 Author Posted August 27, 2021 Cheers, Peter. No Cranes on Chris's site at the moment, which is why I thought it worth asking here 🙂. Chris
seanc Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 Fwiw… I am a duet and a crane newbie. I recently picked up a 55b New Model and am really liking it. that said. As much of a beginner as I am. I definitely see the advantages to having more buttons.

Chris Chris Algar says he has only a small proportion of his concertina stock on the website. I have visited his place near Stoke on Trent and it’s true! Worth a phone call to him. As you say, also worth asking on concertina.net. Peter
seanc Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 I know you want to deal in the UK. but Greg J may still have a Lachenal crane left.
Skandor Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I am considering selling my 48button Wheatstone Crane Duet which is in perfect shape (comes with box). Admittedly, I am living in Germany. Feel free to send a PM or email to callanach@gmx.de if interested though.
Cheshire Chris Posted October 21, 2021 Author Posted October 21, 2021 I’ve now bought a lovely wooden-ended 55-button 1932 Wheatstone Crane 🙂, so mission accomplished! Thanks, Chris 1
Peter Smith Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 Congratulations. Hope you enjoy learning it. If you haven't got a tutor book, the Salvation Army tutor (https://concertina.info/tina.faq/images/Salvation_Army_Tutor_For_Triumph_Concertina_2nd_ed.pdf) or Bulstrode tutor (http://www.concertina.com/crane-duet/index.htm#wilston-bulstrode-crane-tutor) may be of help. Lots of exercises in the Salvation Army tutor!
Cheshire Chris Posted October 21, 2021 Author Posted October 21, 2021 Thanks, Peter. I already have both of those. I'm finding it relatively easy to pick up, coming from the English concertina. There are many similarities in playing techniques. Chris
