richard
Hi I have been careful to make sure my hands are dry after "sanitizing" them before I pick up a concertina. I am concerned about damaging the finish on the wood or metal. Am I being over protective? Has anyone else had a problem, or concern? Wally Carroll
Alcohol can dissolve certain finishes such as French Polish (shellac) and can soften lacquer finishes. Definitely make sure you don't get any of this on your instruments.
Syncopepper
I damaged the finish on a guitar once with insect repellant sprayed on my forearm.
David Barnert
I always wash my hands before handling a musical instrument (whether or not I’ve recently sanitized them).
Clive Thorne
The alcohol part of the santisers will evaporate very quickly, so as long as you gav it 30 seconds or so before picking the instrument up I'd have thought it would have been OK. Don't know about the bleach though.
simon ds
The main ingredient of household bleach is sodium hypochlorite. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleach
d.elliott
Simon, that is a bleach, not a hand sanitiser, OK for use against bacteria, not viruses. Not good on skin anyway!, use rubber gloves for protection against bleaches. I suppose that after the bleach has dissolved the skin and flesh, there may be damage from the residual bone drumming on the action box cover? 😶
