He suggests he knows how to play the accordion but doesn’t know the difference between reeds and valves (and, of course, they’re accordion reeds). He lets it slip that it hasn’t occurred to him to wonder whether it matters which side goes on the right and which side goes on the left. It’s almost like watching a parody.
