ABC collection for 20-button concertinas

Recommended Posts

Does any reader of this forum know of any ABC collections of tunes suitable for a 2-row (20-button)

concertina? This is for a new player who only has a 20-button, and who is looking for 'more tunes'.

I'll build a small selection for him myself if push comes to shove, but I hope there's already something

suitable out there...

Thanks.

My Basic Tunebook has nearly 60 common tunes, and the Session Tunebook has about 600. Almost all tunes are in in G or D, so most would fit on 20 button G/D Anglo. Both tunebooks are available as free downloadable ABC and PDF. See http://www.pghardy.net/concertina/tunebooks/.

Thank you.

I wonder if you can guess just exactly whose tune-books I already recommended in my reply to the original query (which

was on reddit/concertina, rather than here)????

I suspect he has a C/D rather than a G/D because he's currently using GC's Civil War Concertina, but I've pointed out the

transposing features of the 'tina, so hopefully, he'll be able to work round any 'problems in that area. I also pointed up an

alternative tabbing system.

I also sent him a reference to Roger Digby's Faking It on http://www.concertina.com/, plus  40+ C/G tunes from my own

compilations.

Thanks again.

I have the abc for the tunes I recorded for yt (and some more) if you think that could be interesting.

Thank you - that would be interesting. You can PM me, email me, or post 'em here? I like your 'tina tutor

(after translation of course,  my German is almost non-existent! ? ). Thanks!

1 year later... Indeed 😎

Here’s one of Campin’s .abc tunebooks.

9 note maximum in each tune...

I had to think hard to remember this one, and the time resolution on older posts on Reddit is so coarse

that I was unable to track down the thread concerned and check the fine detail. I recommended Paul

Hardy's tune books - the gold standard as far as I am concerned, and I probably recommended JC's

9-note tune book because of the narrow range of notes (and the fact that, assuming a C/G, only 415 of the 41543

notes in the whole tune book aren't available on a 20-button C/G...).

They’re great books, let’s recommend them every couple of weeks!  😀

Here are some more, http://village-music-project.org.uk

There is a way to do complex searches in .abc files, for example ‘all tunes with less than six notes’,  but I cant remember which program nor how it’s done...

Enjoy everyone!
