LateToTheGame Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 I have wondered... Some new makers are making solid ends. Is everyone? Coming from the world of wood flutes and seasonal humidity changes I am sort of paranoid about an instrument with solid wood ends. But maybe that is what everyone does.
dabbler Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 (edited) Not everyone does. Morse concertinas from the Button Box use cherry plywood ends. I own one of their Beaumont models and am quite pleased with it. That said, I wouldn't be too concerned about solid ends since the instrument won't experience the same humidity extremes that a breath instrument would. -George Edited May 26, 2019 by dabbler
alex_holden Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 I laminate my wooden ends. I've seen (and repaired) vintage instruments with solid rosewood ends that were badly cracked and missing pieces.
