JimLucas
...it does not make a good planter or vase. The main reason is that it is very tippy. One of these days I'm going to get tired of picking it up and use it for our limerick contest prize at the NESI.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There once was a vase, name of Lawrence, That on eBay brought just ninety-four cents. But its balance was poor, And it fell to the floor, Where its contents flowed off in mad torrents. Accordion vase, Sickly green ceramic glaze; Isn't it ugly? ................ malcolm clapp
I actually have one of those which I got off eBay a few years ago. I can report that it does not make a good planter or vase. The main reason is that it is very tippy. Note the small "footprint". It doesn't take much of an asymetrical topheavy weight to make it fall over.... But a few celluloid flowers - okay! Isn't that what Blu-Tac is for?

Stephen Chambers
Oh, dear! Now I fear I'll have to learn the Danish song, "Lykkelige Jim". <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, there was an old comic song called "Oh Lucky Jim!", which included the verses : Jim and I as children played together, Best of chums for many years were we; I had no luck--was, alas! a Jonah; Jim, my chum, was lucky as could be. Oh, lucky Jim! How I envied him! Years rolled by, and death took Jim away, boys, Left his widow, and she married me; Now we're married oft I think of Jim, boys, Sleeping in that churchyard by the sea. Oh, lucky Jim! How I envy him! From it, Kingsley Amis took the title of his novel "Lucky Jim". Then there's also the Jeffrey Lee Pierce & The Gun Club song "Lucky Jim" : The rain, it has arrived at last for which we had waited the hawkers have packed up their stands nothing to be traded The Soviets beside the quay run to the freighters the terrace of the Rex Hotel is closed by the waiters We need you, ..... oh, Lucky Jim where have you gone, ..... oh, Lucky Jim Your mistress has left her home back to the dances the smoking dens are starting up for life's own enhancing Nobody goes to the war since there's none to go to we just sit around the cafes bored sit waiting for you We need you, oh Lucky Jim where have you gone, oh Lucky Jim Why did you ever go up north it is not for you they'll strip your little weak heart clean what will you do The Australians in the Bunny Bar are waiting your return everyone wants a piece of you a piece of you to burn We need you, oh Lucky Jim where have you gone, oh Lucky Jim we miss you here, oh Lucky Jim where have you gone, oh Lucky Jim

I wonder if the Danish song is a translation of one of those, or an independent effort. Either way, I should learn those, too. Can someone tell me where to find the tunes, or should I just Google for them? Stephen, thanks for the references!

Stephen, thanks for the references! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Jim, I found them by Googling, but not with great success. I was already aware of the comic song, having heard it years ago, but could only find those two verses. I wasn't familiar with the Jeffrey Lee Pierce & The Gun Club song, but I only saw the guitar chords for it. Sorry !
