Probably so because that is where the Morse Beaumont air button is placed.

I was just looking at the ad a bit closer and I suspect that the Wheatstone H2 strongly influenced the design of the Beaumont: the same range on each side (although three more buttons for accidentals on the H2) and the same unusual air button placement.

Does anyone have any opinions about the playability of an instrument like this one compared to, say, a Wakker H2--just thinking about reed responsiveness, dynamic variability, stuff like that. I know there's a different number of keys, but would the general excellence of the instruments be commensurate with one another?

Yes that is the air button in the handle.  Steve Dickinson's instruments (i.e. present day Wheatstone's) have a wonderful response and dynamic range, and are of the very finest  quality.

If you like The Hayden system, sell the car and mortgage the house to buy it !

Similar thoughts have been expressed before regarding this (?) instrument...

It has disappeared from the BB site.  I'm hoping you grabbed it, David - that way I'm sure to hear it.

Thanks, Dan, but...

I'm interested. I'm planning on driving out to have a look Saturday
(March 2, arriving around opening time) and will very likely buy it.

If, by chance, it is already sold by then (or you're not opening at
noon Saturday, or it's not in the store), please let me know (return
email, call or text 518-***-****).

Thanks.

Dear David,
I'm sorry to say the Aeola Hayden just sold overnight to a customer in
the UK. Apologies.

Regards,
Jon (in today for Doug)

Thanks. Saved me a trip, and a lot of money.

I might also have said “and a certain amount of marital stress.”

I had already decided where I was going to have lunch Saturday near the BB and what tune I was going to make a youtube of to post here.

I just reviewed that thread and saw that I had expressed interest in it then. I had completely forgotten. I now remember that I PM’ed the owner and ultimately balked at the price. But I don’t remember what the price was and can’t seem to dredge up the PMs. I wonder if it was more or less than the $8000 it was listed for here.

I thought I'd seen that Hayden before.  But if it's going to the UK, the buyer must really want it adding duty, VAT and shipping to that $7,995 ....

Don, you should probably mark this thread that it's been sold ....

David, you really deserved to get this instrument and I could'nt wait to listen to your playing on it and maybe try it also somedays. I hope that the new owner will post some recordings and share his music as well.
