JULIANTHEBARBARIAN Posted August 26, 2018 Share Posted August 26, 2018 Is it realistic to get a repair person to drop the left hand notes of a stagi hayden concertina by an octave? This would give some beefy basses, but would the bellows provide enough air to keep the instrument going? Has anyone tried this? A slightly different question - has anyone tried adapting a hayden so that there is no overlap between the two hands, also lowering the left hand tones to achieve this? Wolf Molkentin Posted August 26, 2018 Share Posted August 26, 2018 it‘s not just the (possible lack of) air supply - to lower the frequency of a reed by more than a semitone you would put a weight on the tip - but not to such extent. Don Taylor Posted August 27, 2018 Share Posted August 27, 2018 I doubt it, but since this is an accordion reeded instrument you might try taking it to an accordion repair shop and ask them if there is a compatible set of low sounding accordion reeds that could be fitted.
