AnnC
Whitby Folk Week on the lovely North Yorkshire Coast, always plenty of concertina and melodeon interest, the List of Artists booked so far is impressive and this year there is no clash with the Regatta. Whitby week also follows on from Saltburn Folk Festivalto see the details scroll down the Cutty Wren's web page that the link takes you to and click on the small yellow Saltburn Festival logo found on the left side of the page. Steve_freereeder
I'll be running an anglo concertina workshop on the Thursday morning, hopefully in the Middle Earth at 10 a.m. - 11:20 a.m. It will be aimed at Intermediate to Advanced players and will explore the so-called 'English' harmonic style of playing*. You will need a C/G anglo concertina, preferably with 30 keys minimum, although it will work in part on a 20-key instrument. It will not be suitable for G/D concertinas, sorry. I will not have the time to run the workshop for the two systems in parallel. * NB - it's not an English concertina workshop!
AnnC
Update to parking ...... the Battery Parade, Endeavor Wharf and Marina car parks have been brought into line with the other council car parks and a ban on overnight parking for motor homes and caravans between 11pm and 7am put in place from yesterday August the 1st. Unfortunately the car parks were becoming unofficial camp sites for motor homes and caravans, the local paper carried a photo of the car park beyond the Co-Op packed with motor homes, 60 at a rough count, barely a car to be seen and there are no facilities for rubbish/chemical toilet disposal etc. ( unless you are a Marina permit holder paying a small fortune to berth your boat) Edited August 2, 2018 by AnnC adding to car park list
AnnC
For anyone coming to the festival, or at any other time this web site Whitby Weather has details of the tide times on the left hand side of the page. Very important as the tide comes in all the way to the cliffs, please check tide times before strolling along the beach. There are also links to local webcams and other useful information
Valmai Goodyear
Delighted to say that Bryan Creer and I (Spare Parts) will be running some concertina part-playing sessions. When we know how many, Bryan will put the music on the band website (http://www.sparepartsband.co.uk/SPTunes.php) as dots and midis for people to try out. We'll produce a couple of sets to go in the workshop showcase concert at the end of the week, but there will be other arrangements as well. You'll be very welcome to have a bash at the arrangements whether you're coming to our Whitby sessions or not. Some arrangements we produced for the Tenterden and Lewes Folk Festivals last year are still available on the website - feel free to give those a kicking, too. They will work on any melody instrument.
