Cuteness Overload

Recommended Posts

The same thing happened to me when I lived on a farm just outside Aberdeen. I was playing outside in the late afternoon sun and the cows dashed up from the end of the field, hanging their heads over the fence to get as close as they could to the music. Best audience I ever had; can't claim it was anything to do with youth or cuteness though

Cats have a very different reaction

Jody, surely you’ve noticed the same thing happening when we process from the Sudz campground to Falls Village every June, playing tunes with all the morris dancers behind us. The cows in the neighboring fields come running. Of course, there are also fiddles, melodeons, pipe & tabor, and a bass drum in the procession, but I always suspected it was the concertinas that caught the cows’ attention.

Very cute indeed, but for the beastly comments underneath the posting. I'm glad we don't get that on C.net! Made me realise why I don't do facebook or the other current social media :-)

Well thanks for writing that, because it encouraged me to read those beastly comments. The internet is possibly the most powerful tool ever invented for promoting freedom of debate and look what the world does with it. I just thought it was nice to see a kid enjoying playing some music!

It's an Irish polka called: Oh, Those Britches Full Of Stitches

This young lass is playing it rather slowly, so the polka beat is more along the lines of Martin Hayes who plays a very moving version, rather more like a slow jig or air. Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jKtCBkxFks

Thank you to The Session for the link.

The whole scene is precious. She's gorgeous. Dad, I'm supposing, is so proud. The cows are bovine brilliant!

I had a one time similar experience with sunfish at a small creek. A dozen or more came to the surface as I played the english concertina ("Jamie Allen" was the probable tune)

With their curiosity satisfied they all submerged. I was never able to evoke a similar response. Is everyone a critic? And yes, it seems I was properly "schooled". :P

They were probably waiting for you to play scales.

Thank you for the name of the tune. I was nearly demented looking through all my music. Now for a good night's sleep.

Finbar Furey uses the tune as his intro and instrumental break in the version of 'New York Girls' he recorded for Gangs of New York.

A better film than most of the critics seemed to think. I can't replay it at the moment 'cos my DVD player is busted,

so I cobbled together a simple ABC script to see what this sounded like. Pretty good (as far as the MIDI file allows).

I have put that one on the 'to-learn' list.
