Purchasing A New Stagi Hayden In Europe

Recommended Posts

This is my first post. I wish all you a happy and musical new year, from Spain!.

Briefly: my recent experience (december 2017) on purchasing a new Stagy hayden in Europe.

  • Five dealers were requested (from five different countries, Spain as well) by using their own webs: only two responses received (from Germany and Sweden) .
  • I found the swedish dealer (accordionary.com) to have the more kind and fast attendance. In addition, they promised (no extra charge) both to ensure a tuning of the instrument to A442 and to make eventual adjustments (in similar manner than offers button box) to ensure a perfect playing condition before delivery.

So I made a partial pre-payment for a Stagi hayden...., after which…

  • accordionary.com advertized me the tina would be sent directly from Brunner Musica (the builder), without a previous check by the dealer. :(
  • I received the instrument (with delay) in perfect A442 tune, as promised.
  • Only three keys make a light buzzing, not so problematic by the moment . But some loss of air seemed to happen
  • An accordion repairman in Madrid made a general checking under my presence, ….and showed me two leaks in the wooden reed block of the left side…

Conclusion: unfortunatelly, to buy a new Stagi (hayden) in Europe continues to be a challenge…

I don't think so. One of the leaks was, litterally, a small hollow...

The accordion technician that checked the Stagi told me: "it is difficult to think the instrument is enterely made in Italy..., as regards as that ( and another ones) defficiency.

There have been a number of reports of quality control problems with Stagi concertinas. That's why Button Box does this .

Fo that reason I directly asked accordionary.com about a previous checking similar than button box, with the necessary charges.... but they failed at this point.

..." do not think all you read in internet ".... told me the dealer after my advices....

Hello, I am Félix Castro, from Ourense - Galicia. Interesting your comments about ordering Stagi hayden concertinas in Europe, and sad news about your experience.

Although I am an anglo concertina player, and I have also several maccanns duets. Some people ask me some times about haydens, etc.and where to buy a concertina.

As you commented, in Spain it is very difficult for purchasing one, because it isn't an interesting instrument for dealers as there are very few players of it.

Some months ago a galician man contacted with me because he wanted to order one in Spain, but he hasn't any answer of dealers in Spain, he finally ordered it from Jose Mari López, Musical Dumboa, from Irun - Basque Country, as he has the hayden stagi listed in his web page for selling, but Pepe had to insist several times in order to have any answer from José Mari.

Hello, at the moment I also have delivery problems with Stagi, Italy. Delivery time would be 4 weeks or less. I prepaid the full amount and have been waiting for 8 weeks now and they just do not answer my mails. I am getting a little worried.....

😕

It sounds to me... The 4 weeks the dealer promised to me resulted in around 8-9 at final...

I hope you will receive the Stagi soon!!. After that I think It would needed a checking by an accordion technician...

I enjoy the Stagi very much!. Honestly, It seems to me the Stagi could be a better instrument with no too difficult changes in its construction. I can try to play more things that I previosly imagined.

The major defaut IMO is I thing it is a litle bit awkward, because I feel both the buttons and bellows are a bit hard to play. I feel my arms getting tired after not so much time playing.

OK, thank you, I remain optimistic. Nice to hear that you are nevertheless positive about the Stagi. To be continued.....

Finally after 12 weeks (instead of the promised 4 or less) I received my Stagi from Brunner Musica Recanati Italy. Very poor communication from Brunner during this time and also promisses of delivery that turned out to be fake. I even asked my money back; no response. And yes, the instrument needs to be checked; at least one button does not work properly and does not come back after pushing it. A lot of annoyance ☹️

... have you tried to take apart the end plate?. It 's easy to extract -carefully  - the litle nails. Perhaps the spring of the failing key is not well fixed.

Thank you, yes that was exactly the problem. It was solved for me by an accordian technician. I was so lucky to find someone only a few kilometers from where I live. Now the fun can begin!😊
