I Inherited A Concertina And Know Nothing About It. Help!

Recommended Posts

After my grandparents died, I inherited this concertina. The only thing I know about it is that it was my great grandfathers. It has been sitting in my basement for years but my kids are getting older and have asked about it. I have taken it out of the box a couple times to show them how it plays and it seems to play well, but it is so old, I'm afraid to touch it. I don't know if I should have it restored or if I should sell it to someone who would appreciate it and maybe be able to use it. I never played an instrument and don't know much about music. I can't find any identifying marks on it except the tag on the box which if falling apart. I have looked online and can't find anything that looks similar to this one. I found your website yesterday and thought if there is anyone to ask, it is probably you all. Any information or advise would be great. Thank you so much. Pictures are attached. Heidi - Denver, CO

As it says on the box Heidi, it's German. Quite old, I'm guessing 1920s but that could be wildly out.

They were made in huge numbers in this configuration, and it's not a valuable or sought after model, so I wouldn't spend cash on it unless it's for sentimental reasons. It doesn't look in bad condition for it's age though, so it might play ok, if anyone fancies learning the art.
