SteveP
A few years ago I set up a website devoted to the Crane Duet, www.craneconcertina.com As I no longer play the concertina, I will not be renewing the domain name & hosting when it expires next month. If anybody wants to take the site over, including updating the Gallery, I can look into getting it transferred, and provide instructions etc. If anybody just wants to preserve it, I can send them the .html files behind it all. Unfortunately the gallery pages will not be so easy to transfer, as it is held in a SQL database - not sure if I can get into it to export everything. PM me if you are interested. Takayuki YAGI
If anybody just wants to preserve it, There are 18 versions of the site archived on the waybackmachine I roughly checked and the gallery didn't archived excerpt for the first page. Using the wget or tools like it, I can get gallery images and many files named details.php@something and they are plain html file. If anybody rewrite those files and links properly, I think, it can be preserved as a static site.
Peter Laban
I roughly checked and the gallery didn't archived excerpt for the first page. Sorry, I didn't check all pages. I had a quick skim and thought it was all there. But you're right. Edited October 1, 2016 by Peter Laban
ceemonster
'd be nice to see it live on as a static site at least. I'm fond of those gallery pages. sorry you've not playing anymore, OP.
Daniel Hersh
I agree! Would you be willing to renew it for one more year to allow time for other options to be explored? If cost is an issue I would be willing to make a contribution toward that. 'd be nice to see it live on as a static site at least. Daniel Hersh
I believe that I just got the rest of the gallery loaded onto the Wayback Machine, but someone else should probably double-check: https://web.archive.org/web/20160406190542/http://craneconcertina.com/index.html . Theo
Unfortunately the gallery pages will not be so easy to transfer, as it is held in a SQL database - not sure if I can get into it to export everything. It's a fairly normal part of operating a website to make a backup of databases. If it's not something you can do your web host should be able to do it for you. I'm not proposing to host the site myself, but I finance my concertina habit by making SQL Server databases behave themselves, so if there is someone interested in taking this on and there's anything I can help with on that side of things, I can certainly take a look ... Reed Rat
I love my crane duet and would be willing to take over the site. I plan to play my duet for another 20 years now that I can read music for it. Chris

RAc
A few Crane players and enthuiasts on c.net have already discussed offline that the domain appears to be gone for good (or in this case for worse). Chris (Reed Rat) hasn't visited this forum since 2017 and does not respond to PMs. I had contacted him via the crane domain a year ago but haven't heard from him since. Aside from the pity that the web presence has disappeared, I'm concerned about Chris and hope that he's doing ok. Any news about his whereabouts are appreciated. It wouldn't be too hard to find someone to host the site, but the tough part is finding someone willing to maintain it. Being the webmaster of a site that is of interest only to a very few people isn't a rewarding job. Nevertheless, my appreciation and thanks goes to Chris for having done that very thing!
Daniel Hersh
I don't know Chris and I hope he's ok. But a 2018 iteration of the site is available via the Internet Archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20180821022800/http://craneconcertina.com/index.html . gcoover
What a great resource, glad to see it's still "out there" - thanks for finding it Daniel! Perhaps it could be brought into cnet somehow to insure it's continued availability? Gary
Sprunghub
As someone who only plays the Crane, it was this article that attracted me, as a non-musician who wanted to play some folky, simple "tunes" and sing a bit over the top. It inspired me to get stuck in.....and in due course get a larger one to do exactly what I do on the 35k one ! albeit with many more missed notes and tangles of fingers. Cranes make such good sense to a (still) non musician/beginner. http://craneconcertina.com/35key.html Not sure why that doesn't link.....cut & paste does.... The link doesn't work because the domain is gone. Here is the link to the archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20180821021853/http://craneconcertina.com/35key.html It may look like it works on your local machine if the page is still in your local browser cache.
