Including Proper Quotes.

Recommended Posts

I've just had problems using the quote function. If I am writing a post and want to include a quote from a previous post how do I go about it. I clicked on the Qoute function and then copied and pasted text from another post into the box that appeared. This is evidently not the way to do it as the quoted person's name did not appear.

Got round it in the end by clicking quote on the post I wanted to quote and then deleting the bits that I didn't need and building my message around the quote! Completely crazy! Please help! I use Safari on a Mac, by the way.

One way to do it is to do what you did first time, then switch off the graphical editor by clicking on the light switch in the top left of the editor window, and inside the opening quote tag add the attribute name="name of person you're quoting".

For example, this code:

[quote name="Fred Bloggs"]
Hello!
[/quote]
Becomes this:

Hello!

Or just add the quote tags yourself with the graphical editor turned off.

Thanks Alex_holden! I'll refer back to here the next time I need it. However, that surely isn't the normal way to use the quote function, is it? It seems a bit round about, as it were. Anyway, thanks for giving me a solution.

I'm using a Safari on a Mac and that's how it's done. It took me thirty seconds including a coffee break to reply to you just now, Atzarin.

Of course, on that break I had café cubano in a demi-tasse.

Ha, ha, ha! Not really sure what a café cubano in a demitasse is but do hope you enjoyed it!

It is like an cortado/espresso but instead of adding milk you whip about 8 grams of sugar into the coffee. :o

When using Firefox, there an extension called BBCodeXtra. This makes it very easy and quick to put in quotes, image tags, hyperlinks, and a rake of other things you may want to use in forum posts, In Bulletin Board Code as well as HTML (depending on the forum you're posting to).

"compatible with" SeaMonkey - does that mean it requires it?

I don't think it means it requires it.
