bando_guy
Hello Mustafa, You can tell a bandoneon from a chemnitzer by the pictures of the keyboard. On the left hand the chemnitzer will look similar to a bandoneon but on the right hand there will be three rows of buttons (not the trapezoidal shape of the bandoneon's you are interested in) http://www.korbo.com/piedcrow/diagrams/amchm052.gif. To play tango and be absolutely sure you are getting an octave tuned bandoneon you need the rheinische layout. This layout has 38 buttons on the right hand and 33 on the left hand. http://bandoneon-maker.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/jpg11band142layout.jpg. Now you will notice these are signifigantly more expensive than other bandoneons. I circumvented the cost issue by playing an einheits layout bandoneon (37 right hand, 35 left hand) http://www.korbo.com/piedcrow/diagrams/stdban72.gif and silencing the third set of reeds with a piece of paper. I then sent it to uwe hartenhauer http://www.bandoneon-hartenhauer.de/ to get true octave tuning. Even with the tuning and restoration the price was still cheaper then buying a used tango bandoneon. There are also subsets of these layouts that can be had even cheaper once you are familiar with what these button layouts look like. Be careful if you see chromatic listed in the description as this may look like rheinische but actually be the french unisonic layout.
Atzarin
Excellent answer bando_guy! The last link in the list of dealers/restorers etc that you posted in another thread was really interesting. I didn't know of FuellesdesSur. Thanks for posting!

I didn't know of FuellesdesSur. Thanks for posting! Thanks Aztarin, I've heard about your project and appreciate that there are still people left in the world trying to build new bandoneons and layouts, best of luck to you! FuellesDelSur is pretty new they are all younger guys that were trained by Oscar Fischer in his bandoneon luthier school. They do great work. You can see the school here -> http://www.lacasadelbandoneon.com.ar/escuela.html. I would really like to go to Argentina for two years and attend it if I could. The final project is to build a bandoneon from scratch.
