Metal Ends Vs. Wood Ends... Do They Make A Difference?

Recommended Posts

Somebody (I can't remember who but it might be Danny Chapman?) devised wooden panels that could clip to the outside of his metal-ended Aeola so that he could change the tone on the fly.

See here: http://rowlhouse.co.uk/concertina/pictures/index.html

And as I thought I remembered (but didn't say, because I wasn't sure), the concertina isn't even metal-ended. Danny, do you have any recordings showing the difference in sound between baffled and un-baffled?

I don't have any controlled experiments, unfortunately!

These are definitely without the baffles:

This is definitely with:

I don't use them any more, having "gone off" the sound a bit.

Now, that's left me completely baffled!

Looks like the rowlhouse site is down at the moment.

Was working fine when I looked yesterday. Maybe give it a wait and try again?

Thanks for pointing that out. Yes - it seems like my hosts let it expire (like they did last year!) in error. Hopefully it should be up very soon.
